Once you’ve gotten the ultimate attention of the person you want to be with, is it ok to shower loveand affection on them in public?
Public display of affection is basically two people who engage in acts of intimacy in public. What is acceptable as public display of affection is limited to cultural context and as such isn’t very popular in Nigeria and majorly frowned upon. After a survey conducted at the office this morning, I came to a conclusion that 65% of the staff were all for PDA , so far it wasn’t extreme and the other 35% thought it was completely unnecessary and immoral.
I for one I am in for PDA. I believe that it’s okay to show your spouse every form of affection you can muster irrespective of your location. I shouldn’t have to wait to get behind closed doors because I want to kiss my boyfriend or give him a hickey, it defeats the entire purpose. When you feel it, do it, but of course minimally.
• Extreme PDA – hands inside clothes, deep tonguing, groping, making sexual noises, erections, sex in public places etc
• Acceptable PDA : hugging, jumping on the person, hand holding, sitting on laps, waist holding, sharing an ice cream cone etc
However in favour of those who aren’t for PDA, I disagree with the motion that it’s unnecessary. Showing the person you’re with some form of affection among other people sends the message that you’re proud of who you’re with and I think it’s perfectly okay.
I do understand people who are shy and can’t engage when people are around but hand holding never killed anybody. In the Nigerian environment most people will be offended by PDA because it’s a societal anomaly unlike in some European countries. I think giving the reason that “people will look at you funny and rebuke your up -bringing’ shouldn’t bother you, it’s between two of you not both of you and people. On the safe side to avoid awkward moments, you should definitely find out if the person you’re with is up for PDA before you attempt it.
True that there is a time and place for everything but there’s nothing like a fun spur of the moment kiss on the lips at the mall right?
