He deceived me, took my babies away

love series
Mark was Sarah’s first love and it was no surprise that after dating for five years, they finally tied the knots. Even while dating, their love was so evident.
But for the fact that after ten years of marriage, they still didn’t have a child, Mark and Sarah were indeed a happy couple. The couple visited so many hospitals and they discovered that Sarah had fibroid. A surgery was done to remove the growth but after the surgery was carried out, Sarah kept on bleeding profusely. She went back to the hospital and the doctor said there were complications and she needed a hysterectomy to save her life.
Sarah had no choice than to have the operation done but this meant that she could never have a child. Mark was not so happy about this development because he loved to have children but he took it in good faith because of the love he had for Sarah.
But she did not take the news as such. She wept. She thought of Mark’s mother and how she would make her marriage even more unbearable knowing that her only son could never produce a grandchild for her.
She knew she had to act fast and save her marriage from crumbling. After weighing all her options and thinking of a way out, she woke her husband up in the middle of the night.
“Darling, please wake up, I need to talk to you,” she said sadly. A sleepy Mark sat up to know what it was she had to say.
“What is the problem,” asked a worried Mark.
“I know how much you crave for a child and I know I can never have one for you. I want you to go out and get a woman pregnant,” she suggested to her husband’s chagrin.
“I would never have another wife. We are in this together and I am ready to go the whole hog,” he fumed.
“If you don’t want a second wife, I know what we can do,” Sarah said.
Few months after this discussion, Mark went into a relationship. He met Victoria, a naïve 20-year-old orphan. She fell in love with Mark because he showered her with so much love and affection. Asking her to pack out of her aunt’s house, he rented an apartment for her in a middle class area in Lagos and gave her monthly allowance for her upkeep.
Though he made her realise that he was married, Victoria was not really bothered since he was giving her all the attention she needed and she had financial security with him. In fact, he promised to marry her if she could bear a child for him.
Few months into the relationship, Victoria became pregnant. Mark was so happy about it and when Victoria reminded him of his promise to marry her if she got pregnant; he agreed and travelled with her to the village for a family introduction.
Six months after, Victoria had a set of twins. Mark couldn’t contain his joy as the children resembled him. He gave her a brand new car to celebrate the birth of his two boys. Victoria was so happy at the way her husband took very good care of her.
After a month, Mark suggested having a nanny who would be taking care of the children. For Victoria, this was no problem since she didn’t have much experience in taking care of children, besides she didn’t have any relative who could help out.
Victoria fell in love with the new nanny, who took care of the children as if they were hers.  Aunty Becky (the nanny’s name) was an angel. Sometimes, Victoria would go out leaving the children in care of the nanny and she did this for a very long time.
One day, Victoria’s best friend’s mother was marking her 50th birthday and Victoria was to attend the party. She decided to leave the twins with Aunty Becky, so that she could have a nice time, as it had been a long while she went for any social function.
She got back home in the night to find the nanny missing with the twins! She searched everywhere but there were no clues of them.
An alarmed Victoria went to ask the security guard about the whereabouts of the nanny and children and he told her that, “oga had come to pick them.” At first, Victoria was confused, but felt relieved a bit that they were with their father.
Victoria called her husband but his number was not reachable. She kept on trying his number but it didn’t go throughout the night.  The next morning, Victoria went to Mark’s office to find out what happened the night before. When she got there, the secretary told her that Mark had resigned about a month ago and was rumoured to have travelled to Australia with his family. He was said to have had a better job offer abroad.
A shocked Victoria fainted on the spot. She later discovered that Aunty Becky was Sarah, Mark’s wife, and they had waited for a convenient time to take the children from Victoria to start a family where she could not reach them. Since the children looked so much like their father, no one would know that Sarah was not their biological mother!
Victoria was devastated. Her children were all she had. Her house rent expired and she was sent packing out of the apartment. As for the car, she had to sell it.
