Learn how to talk to a girl like a real smooth talker,
no matter where you are. All you need are just 10
moves to work your magic and impress her!
Have you ever walked into a room and instantly
found yourself smitten by a beauty standing across
the room?
Ever wondered how to talk to a girl you like at a
time like this?
Making a move to talk to a girl
One of the biggest hurdles most guys face is
making the first move.
Chatting up a girl is easy if you’re going to be
introduced to her.
But when you have to walk up to a girl you’ve never
spoken to before, and want to start a conversation,
your heart can start to beat faster than a
hummingbird on heat.
[Read: Everything you need to know to approach a
girl you don't know and wow her!

Follow these ten steps one at a time, and before
you know it, knowing how to talk to a girl you like
will be as easy as taking a walk in the park.
What you need to know
You’re interested in talking to great girls, aren’t
you?
And just like you, girls are interested in talking to
great guys too.
So really, there’s nothing to be worried about here!
Remember the biggest rule when it comes to
knowing how to talk to a girl – you can’t jump
steps. Just like you have to learn to walk before
you can run, you need to learn to warm her up
before you talk to her. Read on.
#1 Let her know you’re interested in her. Talking to
a girl isn’t as simple as walking up to just about any
girl and asking her out on a date. It may work in the
movies, but in all probability, it won’t work in real
life. A girl needs to know you’re interested in her so
she can evaluate you.
If you just walk up to a girl who doesn’t have a hint
that you’re approaching her, you may just end up
shocking her. And she’s going to say the first thing
her mum taught her to say to intruding boys. “Go
away!” [Read: 8 classy moves to get a girl to notice
you without even talking to her
]
#2 Play the staring game. Once she knows you
exist, take the game a notch higher. Glance at her
now and then to arouse her curiosity. Does she
glance back at you now and then? Does she smile
to herself when you catch her eye? Do her friends
look at you and smile? Watch out for the happy
signs. [Read: 10 subtle eye contact flirting moves
that always work!
]
There’s no point in trying to figure out how to talk to
a girl if all she does is gives you a dirty stare or
doesn’t care whether you’re looking at her. Asking a
girl out in such cases usually ends up being a
disaster and for a novice’s confidence, it’s best to
be avoided.
#3 Don’t pick her up. Using a pick up line may be
smart and cocky, but in most cases, pick up lines
fail. The best way to figure out when and how to talk
to a girl is to avoid pick up lines and use pick up
circumstances instead!
If it’s a conference or a gallery and she walks up to
a display, stand next to her and say something out
of the blue like “do you know how long it took to
make this?” or something just as casual. Likewise,
whether it’s in the office, a park or even a bar, look
around and ask her a question that’s relevant to
something around her.
But always remember to keep it vague. A vague
question makes a girl wonder for a few seconds,
she’s going to end up responding to you. [Read:
How to tell if a girl likes you for more examples and
tips]
#4 Don’t come on too strong. Now this works best
just after you’ve spoken to her after asking her a
really vague question. Once she answers it, both of
you are in talking mode but not really friends. She
would have answered your question and looked
away. She obviously knows you’re hitting on her, so
she won’t really try to continue the conversation.
She may just smile and look away. [Read: 16 tips to
keep a flirty conversation going with the opposite
sex
]
You can do one of two things, introduce yourself or
continue to play the game and introduce yourself
after asking her a few more questions. Prolonging
the game can make it so much more exciting for
both of you. But of course, she could just walk out
of the conversation if she’s in a bar counter waiting
for a drink. If you’re introducing yourself, go ahead
and introduce yourself. And be frank, tell her you
have a confession to make, that you’ve been
waiting to meet her for a long time or all evening.
She obviously knows you’ve been staring at her, so
why pretend like you’re picking her up. Telling her
the truth may flatter her instead of making her feel
like she’s being picked up. [Read: 15 very obvious
flirting signs between a guy and a girl
]
#5 Give her the space
When you’re talking to a girl, make sure she knows
she can walk out whenever she wants. Don’t corner
her in awkward places like outside the ladies room,
or a quiet corridor. If you can handle it, you can
even talk to a girl when she’s with her friends.
Always remember, if she feels like she has the
space, she’s going to be a lot more comfortable to
talk to you. [Read: How to charm a girl and flatter
her into liking you ]
But then again, this is tricky. If you give a girl
enough space, you may not be able to build a
connection and she may just end up walking away.
But as long as you’ve got the first four steps right,
she won’t really walk away.
After all, if you’ve warmed her up, she’s going to
want to talk to you too! As long as you’ve used
these first four steps on how to talk to a girl to the
tee, you’ll be able to talk to a girl and impress her,
without really making it appear like you’re trying to
pick her up. [Read: 12 things a girl does when she
likes you already ]

talk to a girl and look smooth at the same time.
These tips may be enough to impress a girl and

steps on what to talk about with a girl to rouse her

Pope visits Jerusalem holy sites
Pope Francis has visited the most important holy sites for Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem's Old City on the final day of his Middle East tour. At the al-Aqsa mosque compound, the Pope urged people of all religions to "work together for justice and peace". He then prayed at the Western Wall, which lies just beneath it, bowing his head as he touched the stones. The pontiff has been feted by Israel and the Palestinians, and has invited their presidents to the Vatican. Both Israel's Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas have given a positive response. 'Brothers and sisters' Pope Francis began the third day of his trip by visiting the compound, considered the third holiest site in Islam. Known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary) and Jews as the Temple Mount, the status of the site is one of the most contentious issues in the Israel-Palestinian conflict . Pope Francis took off his shoes to enter the Dome of the Rock, from where Islamic tradition says the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. The Pope then walked to the nearby al-Aqsa Mosque. Speaking to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, the Pope deviated from his prepared remarks to call on Christians, Jews and Muslims to "love one another as brothers and sisters". "May we learn to understand the suffering of others. May no-one abuse the name of God through violence," he said. Afterwards, he headed to the Western Wall, one of the holiest sites in Judaism. It is part of the retaining wall of the Temple Mount dating back to a time when a Jewish temple stood there. The Pope spent a few minutes praying at the wall, as he did on Sunday at the controversial Israeli security barrier that separates the biblical town of Bethlehem in the West Bank from Jerusalem. He also left a written prayer in a crack in the Western Wall's ancient stones, before embracing two close friends from his native Argentina - an imam and a rabbi - who have been travelling with him. The Pope then went to Mount Herzl cemetery, where he lay a wreath at the tomb of the founder of modern Zionism, Theodor Herzl. The BBC's Yolande Knell in Jerusalem says the visit is now part of the protocol for official visitors, but is nevertheless an act of symbolic importance. Afterwards, the Pope made an unscheduled stop at a memorial for Israeli civilians killed in attacks by Palestinian militants. The move was at the request of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his office said. 'Never again' Later, the Pope travelled to Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust memorial, where he kissed the hands of several survivors in a sign of honour. At a solemn ceremony at the Hall of Remembrance, he spoke of the "boundless tragedy of the Holocaust", describing it as an "unfathomable abyss". "Never again, Lord, never again!" he said. "Here we are, Lord, shamed by what man - created in your own image and likeness - was capable of doing." Our correspondent says the visit to the memorial holds special significance because of questions over the Vatican's position during the Holocaust. The Pope then met Israel's two chief rabbis before attending a private audience with President Peres, whom he asked to guarantee pilgrims free access to Jerusalem's holy sites. Shortly before departing for Rome from Ben Gurion airport, he celebrated Mass at the site known as the Cenacle, where Jesus is reputed to have taken part in the Last Supper with his Apostles on the eve of his crucifixion. The Cenacle is located in a historic building on Mount Zion that is also sacred to both Jews and Muslims. The reputed burial place of King David is on the ground floor of the Cenacle, while a mosque is situated on the roof.

Nigeria 'called off deal' for girls
A deal for the release of some of the abducted schoolgirls in Nigeria was close to being secured when the Nigerian government called it off, the BBC has learned. Some of the girls were set to be freed in exchange for imprisoned Islamist militants, reports the BBC's Will Ross. Boko Haram group snatched more than 200 girls from a school on 14 April. Nigeria's government is under pressure to do more to tackle the group and bring about the girls' release. Thousands of people have died since Boko Haram began a violent campaign against the Nigerian government in 2009 and in the subsequent security crackdown. 'All options open' The BBC has learned that officials have held talks with the group to secure the release of the schoolgirls. An intermediary met Boko Haram leaders earlier this month and visited the location in north-east Nigeria where the girls were being held, says the BBC's Will Ross in the capital, Abuja. A deal was almost reached to set some of the girls free in exchange for the release of 100 Boko Haram members being held in detention, our correspondent says. But the government cancelled the planned agreement shortly before the swap was due to take place. The reasons for the withdrawal are unclear. It came just after Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan attended a meeting in Paris hosted by President Francois Hollande of France where leaders said they had agreed a "global and regional action plan" against Boko Haram. Who are Boko Haram? • Founded in 2002 • Initially focused on opposing Western education - Boko Haram means "Western education is forbidden" in the Hausa language • Launched military operations in 2009 to create Islamic state • Thousands killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria - also attacked police and UN headquarters in capital, Abuja • Some three million people affected • Declared terrorist group by US in 2013 The girls, who were mainly Christian, were taken from their school in Chibok, in north-eastern Borno state and are thought to be held in a remote forested area of the state, close to the border with Chad and Cameroon. Nigeria previously in return for their release. However, the information ministry had earlier said all options were on the table, after the group earlier this month and suggested a swap. The video showed 136 girls, and was interspersed with militants explaining that they had "converted" to Islam. The UK, the US, China and France are among the countries to have sent teams of experts and equipment to help to locate them. 'Morally bankrupt' Meanwhile, Nigeria is reeling from continuing violence - on Sunday, 24 villagers died in a raid by suspected Boko Haram militants. On Saturday there was another bomb in the central city of Jos where earlier in the week 118 people had died a twin car bomb attack blamed on the group. A special day of Muslim prayers was held on Sunday in Abuja where the Sultan of Sokoto - the spiritual leader of Nigeria's Muslims - said the country faced a crisis worse than the civil war in the 1960s as they were fighting an enemy without boundaries. "What is happening in the country is a very serious case of terrorism; terrorism has no place in Islam… we must fish out those bad elements amongst us," Muhammed Sa'ad Abubakar told worshippers. But the sultan said Nigerians cannot hope for their prayers to be answered if they continue to be "corrupt and so morally bankrupt". "Corruption breeds injustice, injustice has no place in Islam. Injustice is a big barrier to good governance and if you don't have good governance in any society, you don't have the people," he said.

Deadly blast in Nigerian city of Jos
The world is watching to see what Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan will do next An explosion in the central Nigerian city of Jos has killed at least three people in a suicide attack, police say. Police said the blast happened near an open-air TV viewing centre where people were watching the Champions League football final. No group has said it carried out the attack. However it comes days after a twin car bomb attack blamed on Boko Haram militants killed 118 people in Jos. A spokesman for Plateau state governor Jonah Jang said the latest blast happened on Bauchi Road at about 21:30 local time (20:30 GMT). Police commissioner Chris Olakpe told AFP news agency that the bomber's improvised explosive device detonated prematurely. "He died in the wake of the heinous crime. It exploded before the viewing centre because of pressure from local youths and the alertness of the local people," he added. Last month suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed a venue in Potiskum, north-east Yobe state, and shot dead two people watching the two Champions League quarter-final matches. Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has previously described football and music as a Western ploy to distract Muslims from their religion. The latest attack comes five weeks after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls, prompting international outrage. The UN Security Council has approved sanctions against the Islamist group.

Pope praises Jordan as tour begins
Pope Francis has praised Jordan for its "generous welcome" to Syrian refugees at the start of a three-day visit to the Middle East. The Pope was welcomed by King Abdullah II and in a speech at the royal palace, he stressed the need for an "urgent" solution to the Syrian conflict. He went on to celebrate Mass at a stadium in the capital Amman and will later meet Syrian refugees. The tour's official purpose is to improve ties with the Orthodox Church. However, correspondents say many will expect Pope Francis to use his influence to try to ease tensions in the Middle East. His highlighting of Jordan's role in accepting Syrian refugees came weeks after the kingdom opened a new camp which could accommodate up to 130,000 refugees. Jordan is already host to almost 600,000 people fleeing the conflict, according to the UN. In his speech, he also called for more respect for religious freedom, calling it "a fundamental human right". "I cannot fail to express my hope that it will be upheld throughout the Middle East and the entire world," he said. Christian minorities have been subject to increasing attacks in some parts of the Middle East in recent years. He thanked Jordan for its "efforts to seek lasting peace for the entire region" and said this would also require a "just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict". On Sunday he is to begin two days in the West Bank and Israel. He told journalists that the trip would be "challenging" but rewarding, AP reports. By BBC Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen, travelling with Pope Francis Pope Francis comes across as an approachable, amiable man. Not long after takeoff he came to greet the 50 or so journalists travelling with him. They're mostly reporters who follow the Pope full-time. One woman said that Pope Benedict, Francis's predecessor, never came back to talk to journalists. She asked him to pose for a selfie, which he did with a smile. He told me he had been in Jerusalem only once before, in 1973 at the time of the Yom Kippur war. The Pope insists his trip is about religion, officially marking the fiftieth anniversary of a visit by Pope Paul VI 50 years ago. But he's heading for Jerusalem, where everything is political. It will take diplomatic skill to avoid controversy. Palestinians hope he will have something to say about their desire for independence. In Bethlehem, which is in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Palestinians say they are threatened by the encroachment of Jewish settlements. The Israeli government will hope he stays as neutral as possible - a position which would disappoint Palestinian Christians. Restraining orders The Pope will be accompanied by a rabbi and an imam - friends from his native Argentina - and hopes to improve relations between Christians, Muslims and Jews in the Holy Land. His journey comes only a few weeks after the latest round of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks collapsed. Israel has issued restraining orders against several Jewish right-wing activists this week over concerns that they could try to disrupt the visit. Police said offensive "anti-Christian graffiti" was discovered on the wall of a church in the southern city of Beersheba on Friday. Preparations were well under way at Manger Square in Bethlehem ahead of the Pope's visit The Pope's journey marks the 50th anniversary of the historic meeting in Jerusalem between Pope Paul VI and the head of the Orthodox Church, Patriarch Athenagoras. The meeting ended 900 years of separation and enduring antagonism between the Eastern and Western branches of Christianity. On Sunday, Pope Francis will travel to Bethlehem in the West Bank and preside over Mass in Manger Square, near the site where Jesus is believed to have been born. He will also meet the current Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarch, Bartholomew, and they will sign a declaration of friendship. His schedule on Monday is set to include a visit to the al-Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem's Old City followed by the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall. Pope Francis will be the fourth leader of the Roman Catholic Church to visit Jerusalem, after Popes Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, who went there in 2009.

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid
Champions League final: Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid preview
Atletico Madrid will give Diego Costa and Arda Turan every chance to be fit for Saturday's Champions League final against city rivals Real Madrid.
Costa has been treated in Belgrade using horse placenta after tearing a hamstring during last weekend's 1-1 draw with Barcelona.
Turan injured a hip against Barca.
"They trained better yesterday but we will see how they both train here and how they feel. We will decide on what we see," said coach Diego Simeone.
Costa has scored 36 goals this season but Simeone is confident his title-winning squad has enough ability to cope if either man fails to make it.
"They are just names. Both are important players with the team but there are other players who know they will be playing if Diego or Arda don't so we are working in preparation for whatever happens."
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti expects Cristiano Ronaldo to be fit.
Ronaldo has been troubled by a hamstring injury ahead of the showpiece in his home country and missed Real's last two La Liga games, withdrawing from the game against Espanyol shortly before kick-off.
"Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't have a problem - we need him. . He has trained well and now we will just have to wait and see," said Ancelotti.
Pepe and Karim Benzema have also been doubts in the build-up and Ancelotti added: "We will have to see how Pepe and Karim are doing because they haven't trained this week.
"Today's training session will be crucial for Pepe. "
After winning La Liga for the first time since 1996, Atletico are attempting to win their first European Cup.
They reached the final in 1974 but were beaten 4-0 by Bayern Munich in a replay, after the first match finished 1-1.
Real, meanwhile, could win the trophy for a record 10th time but it will be their first success since 2002, when Zinedine Zidane scored a spectacular goal to secure a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
A victory for Real would mean a third Champions League title as a coach for Ancelotti, who also won the competition twice as a player.
"There's no pressure on me, just the joy of living this moment of happiness,'' said Ancelotti.
"A lot of teams have to watch this game in front of the TV and we're lucky to be able to play it. I've watched this game on TV a lot of times and I didn't enjoy it."
Saturday's match between Real and Atletico is the first European Cup final with two teams from the same city. It will also be the fifth meeting between the two sides this season.
Real emerged as 5-0 victors over two legs in the Spanish Cup, with Atletico claiming a win and a draw in the league meetings.

The world's worst stadium disaster
The world's worst stadium disaster occurred exactly 50 years ago in the Peruvian capital Lima. More than 300 people died - but the full story has never been told, and possibly never will be. "The police didn't let their dogs loose but they did let them tear his clothes off," recalls Hector Chumpitaz, one of Peru's football legends. "The people were getting disturbed by the way in which they were taking the pitch invader away. It was driving them mad. "We don't know what would have happened if they had removed him in a peaceful fashion, but we can't think about that now." Chumpitaz went on to gain more than 100 caps for Peru. He captained the side at the 1970 and 1978 World Cups, but he almost gave up football after this disastrous match, at the start of his international career. Hosting Argentina on 24 May 1964, Peru were second in the table at the half-way stage of South America's Olympic qualifying tournament. Confidence was high, but with Brazil awaiting in their last game, Peru realistically needed a draw at least against Argentina. The stadium was packed to its 53,000 capacity, a little over 5% of Lima's population at the time. "Though we were playing well, they took the lead," Chumpitaz recalls. "We attacked, they defended and this continued until a play came where their defender went to clear - and our player, Kilo Lobaton, raised his foot to block and the ball rebounded into the goal - but the referee said it was a foul, so he disallowed it. This is why the crowd began to get very upset." In quick succession, two spectators entered the field of play. The first was a bouncer known as Bomba, who tried to hit the referee before being both stopped by police and manhandled off the field. The second, Edilberto Cuenca, then suffered a brutal assault. "Our very own policemen were kicking him and beating him as if he were the enemy. This is what raised everybody's anger - including mine," says one of the fans in the Estadio Nacional that day, Jose Salas. Within seconds, the crowd were launching a variety of missiles at the police. A couple of dozen more people were trying to reach the pitch. Reading the mood, Salas and his friends decided to leave. "The five of us went down the stairs to go out on to the streets - as did many others - but we found the exit gate closed," he says. "So we turned round and started to climb the stairs, which is when the police started throwing the tear gas. At that point, the people in the stands ran into the tunnel to escape - where they met us - causing an enormous crush." Salas was in the north stand, where the greatest number of tear gas canisters fell - between 12 and 20. Salas thinks he spent some two hours in a human glacier that slowly edged down the stairs - so tightly packed, he says, that his feet did not touch the floor until he ended up at the bottom, trapped in a pile of bodies, some living some dead. Records state that most victims died from asphyxiation. But what makes this stadium disaster different from others is what happened on the streets outside. Newspapers the following day showed the panic caused by the tear gas While some fans who escaped from the stadium managed to open the gates and free those trapped inside, others became involved in a battle with armed police. "Some lads from my neighbourhood were going by and spotted me. I was quite skinny, and eventually they pulled me out," he says. "But then the shooting began and they started running. The shots were outside - bullets were everywhere. I started to run and didn't look back." For most of this time, Chumpitaz was also unable to leave. "After we made it to the dressing rooms, some people went outside and came back saying there had been two deaths. 'Two deaths?' we asked. One would have seemed a lot. We were in the dressing room for two hours before we could leave, so we didn't know the magnitude of what was going on. "On the way back to our training base, we were listening to the radio and it was 10, 20, 30 deaths. Every time there was news, the number was rising: 50 deaths, 150, 200, 300, 350." The official number of those who died is 328, but this may be an underestimate, as it does not include anyone killed by gunfire. There are many eyewitness accounts of people dying of gunshot wounds, but the judge appointed to investigate the disaster, Judge Benjamin Castaneda, was never able to find the bodies to prove it. Hearing of two corpses with gunshot wounds in Lima's Hospital Loayza, he rushed to inspect them, he told me when I interviewed him 14 years ago. As he arrived, a vehicle was just leaving. "Reaching the mortuary, I met someone I knew," he said. "I asked him if there were two corpses with bullet wounds. 'Yes,' he told me, 'but they've just taken them away.'" Some months after the tragedy, Castaneda was visited by an elderly man who said his two sons, both medical students, had travelled from the provinces to attend the game and never returned. "Even though he had looked for their names among the dead, he could not find them," Castaneda told me. "He had made further inquiries, but found nothing. So I told him I had news that some people had died after being shot and that, lamentably, I could never discover their identities as everything had been hidden from me." In his report, Castaneda said the death toll given by the government did not "reflect the true number of victims, since there are well-founded suspicions of secret removals of those killed by bullets". He went on to accuse the then interior minister of orchestrating the pitch invasion and the brutal police response, in order to incite the crowd to violence - thus providing a pretext for a violent crackdown. The show of strength was intended, he said, to "make the people learn, with blood and tears" the risks they ran if they challenged the authorities. For its part, the government laid the blame for the trouble on Trotskyist agitators. Jorge Salazar, a journalist and professor who has written a book about the disaster, says Peruvian society was at the time unusually turbulent. "It was the sixties, it was Beatles time, Fidel Castro was in fashion - everything was changing in the world," he says. "In Peru, people were talking for the first time about social justice. There were a lot of demonstrations, worker movements and communist parties. The left was quite powerful, and there was a permanent clash between the police and the people." Many of the football fans who escaped from the tear gas, certainly wanted revenge on the police. Two policemen were reportedly killed inside the stadium, and battles continued on the streets outside. Fifty years on, Peruvian Congressman Alberto Beingolea, who has called this weekend for a minute's silence to honour the dead, doubts that the violence was pre-planned by either the government or revolutionaries. But he doesn't discount the idea that people died from gunshot wounds. "Two such deaths are possible, especially if you are in a climate of chaos - as happened in that era," he says. "When one generates chaos, the police have to respond - and at any moment, that can result in shooting." Peru has never made a serious attempt to get to the bottom of the Estadio Nacional disaster, and this may never now be possible. The stadium today What we do know is that those punished can be counted on two fingers. Jorge Azambuja, the police commander who gave the order to fire the tear gas, was sentenced to 30 months in jail. The other was Judge Castaneda himself. He was fined for submitting his report six months late, and for failing to attend all 328 autopsies as he ought to have done. His report was thrown out. Now dead, he told me in 2000: "I asked everywhere about the bodies but never found anything. They said - without official confirmation of any kind - they were interred in Callao." This year, the head of the Peruvian Institute of Sport - one of the country's four Olympic medallists, Francisco Boza - has made an unprecedented effort to contact families affected by the tragedy and to invite them to a long overdue mass, to be held at the Cathedral of Lima on Saturday. But there is still no plaque on display at the Estadio Nacional to commemorate those who died in football's worst disaster. Deadly attacks on Nigeria villages
Nigeria village attack 'kills 17' May 21, 2014 13:00 Gabriel Gatehouse in Jos: "Is the Nigerian military capable of coping with this threat?" The Islamist group Boko Haram has been accused of killing at least 17 people in an attack on a village in north-east Nigeria, close to where hundreds of schoolgirls were seized. It comes a day after 118 people died in a double bombing in the central city of Jos, also blamed on Boko Haram. In the latest attack, Boko Haram fighters reportedly spent hours killing and looting in the village of Alagarno. Alagarno is near Chibok, from where the schoolgirls were abducted last month. The abductions of more than 200 girls caused international outrage and prompted foreign powers to send military advisers to assist Nigeria's army. People in north-east Nigeria are extremely vulnerable to attacks because many areas are no-go zones for the military and the insurgents operate freely, correspondents say. Analysis by Will Ross, BBC News, Abuja The big question is where is Nigeria heading? The ferocity, frequency and geographical spread of the attacks is alarming. The military continues to fail to protect civilians in the north-east despite endless promises from the government that additional help is being sent there. Boko Haram has in the past said it wanted to create an Islamic state. The current bombing campaign is indiscriminate, killing Christians and Muslims. Following most of the devastating attacks in the remote north-east this year, the government has been silent. These days the president and government officials take less time to condemn, but there is no real sign that the military has the capacity to turn the tide against this brutal campaign of violence. That is terrifying. 'Fully committed' Witnesses in Alagarno said the suspected Boko Haram fighters had arrived close to midnight, forcing many residents to flee into the bush. The militants left the village some four hours later with stolen food and vehicles. One survivor told the BBC that every single building in the village had been torched. Meanwhile, the search for bodies is continuing in Jos following Tuesday's twin bombings that reduced buildings to rubble. Witnesses in Jos described scenes of horror and confusion in the aftermath of the attack Twisted wreckage from the blasts in Jos was still strewn across the road on Wednesday Relatives of victims gathered at a mortuary in Jos to identify their loved ones The attacks targeted a crowded market and a hospital, and the second blast went off 30 minutes after the first - killing rescue workers who had rushed to the scene. "People were using wheelbarrows to move bodies and limbs," eyewitness Janzen Weyi told the BBC. Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan condemned the bombings, and said those who carried out the attacks were "cruel and evil". His office said he was "fully committed to winning the war against terror". The president announced increased measures to tackle the militants, including a multinational force around Lake Chad which comprises a battalion each from Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Nigeria. The US also issued a statement condemning the Jos attack, as well as a suicide bombing in the northern city of Kano on 18 May. It said it was working closely with Nigerian authorities to find a solution to the "regional security threat" posed by Boko Haram. President Jonathan's government has been accused of not doing enough to tackle the Islamist extremists - criticism that has grown since the abduction of the schoolgirls. Earlier this month, the Nigerian senate unanimously approved a six-month extension of a state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state. More than 1,000 people have been killed in attacks linked to the group this year alone. Nigeria under attack • 20 May: Twin bomb attacks killed at least 118 people in the central city of Jos • 18 May: Suicide blast on a busy street in northern city of Kano kills four, including a 12-year-old girl • 5 May: Boko Haram militants slaughter more than 300 residents in the town of Gamboru Ngala • 2 May: Car bomb claims at least 19 lives in the Nigerian capital, Abuja • 14 April: Twin bomb attack claimed by Boko Haram kills more than 70 at an Abuja bus station; the same day, the group abducts more than 200 schoolgirls from the remote northern town of Chibok • 17 March: At least 20 people die in a suicide car bomb at a bus stop in Kano Are you in the area? It's A Big Lie, Soldiers Have Not Rescued The Female Students
Also, Borno State government and management of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, where over 100 female students were abducted by Boko Haram on Tuesday, have said the military’s claim on freeing 107 of the missing girls is false.
The spokesman of the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade had Wednesday issued a statement claiming that 107 of the kidnapped SSS-3 girls had been freed. The military statement reads:
“More students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok have been freed this evening in the ongoing search and rescue operations to free the abducted students. With this development, the principal of the school confirmed that only eight of the students are still missing. One of the terrorists who carried out the attack on the school has also been captured. Efforts are underway to locate the remaining 8 students.”
Mrs. Kwambura, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri, said:
“They contacted me from the army headquarters in Abuja and I told them that I don’t want to be seen to be contradicting myself on that because what the governor had said was what we knew. I also told them there could be further rescue of the girls, but up to this moment, we have not received any of them apart from what we had before. What the governor said is still the true picture of the whole issue and the information given by the military is totally wrong.”
Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima was also heard speaking in an interview aired on the Hausa Service of the BBC on Thursday morning that only 14 girls had been recovered so far.
“We have recovered 14 of the girls and we have announced N50 million reward for any credible information that will help us get our girls released and rejoined with their families,” the governor said.
Many residents of Maiduguri who are angered by the lies of the Military Headquarters in Abuja are now of the opinion that this development has confirmed what people have been saying the the federal government has been feeding Nigerians with lies about the activities of Boko Haram.

Nine killed in Turkey train crash
The accident happened at a level crossing near the Mediterranean port city of Mersin.
It appeared all the dead – and a further five people who were injured – had been aboard the bus, and that train passengers were not hurt.
Local media suggested the level crossing barrier may have been open.
Basri Guzeloglu, the local governor, said the cause of the accident would be investigated.
The minibus was carrying the workers to an industrial zone on the edge of Mersin when it was hit.
Video footage showed the destroyed minibus lying by the side of the railway line and emergency services trying to reach the victims.
$1.69m fraud: Ajudua knows fate on bail application Mar 31
Justice Kudirat Jose fixed the date after hearing arguments from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission counsel, Mrs E.A. Sanusi and Ajudua’s counsel, Chief Charles Edosomwan (SAN).
Ajudua and one Charles Orie are being prosecuted for allegedly defrauding two Dutch businessmen – Messrs Remy Cina and Pierre Vijgen, of $1.69m (about N252.8m).
They were re-arraigned before Jose on February 5 following the transfer of the case from the former trial judge, Justice Joseph Oyewole.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Orie was on March 12 granted bail while Ajudua is still being remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos.
Addressing the court on Thursday, Sanusi said the EFCC had filed a 16-paragraph counter affidavit on March 10 opposing Ajudua’s application for bail.
Sanusi argued that there was likelihood that the first defendant (Ajudua) would jump bail and interfere with the prosecution witnesses.
“My Lord, it is a 2003 case and we have not been able to do anything. We have only called six witnesses to testify against the defendants,” she said.
Responding, Edosomwan said there was no proof before the court that his client had interfered with any witness.
According to him, there is overwhelming medical evidence that Ajudua is suffering from a life-threatening ailment.
He argued that Ajudua was ready to face trial contrary to the claim by the EFCC that he absconded after he was granted bail on medical grounds in 2005.
“My Lord, find it in your kind heart to grant the defendant bail,” Edosomwan said.
CBN to sell Treasury bills worth N313bn
The CBN posted the information on the sale of the treasury bills for the second quarter of the year on its Website.
It said the bills would have 91-day, 182-day and one year tenor and would be re-opened at the regular debt auction.
The apex bank explained that the 91-day treasury bills would be worth N50.28bn, 182-day worth N33.27bn and the one year bills were worth N63.73bn
It also said it would sell new bills including 91-day Treasury bill worth N33.27 bn, 182-day bills worth N50.28bn and one year bills worth N83.05bn
CBN submits N930bn budget to National Assembly
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that it is the first time the CBN would be doing so in the apex bank’s history.
The budget was presented to the house by Mr Suleiman Barau, Deputy Governor in charge of Corporate Services, who also defended the bank’s 2013 performance at the session.
Barau said that the CBN had projected N553bn as expected income with a projected expenditure profile of N377bn for 2014.
Presenting its performance chart for its 2013, Barau said that the CBN overshot its 2013 expenditure by more than N326bn.
He said the bank projected N413bn as its expenditure for 2013 but ended up spending N739bn.
Barau told the committee that the bulk of the 2013 excess expenditure was spent on “liquidity management” of the country’s economy.
He said the bank earmarked N180bn for liquidity management but ended up spending N536bn.
The Chairman of the Committee on Banking and Currency, Rep. Jones Onyereri (PDP- Imo), then requested for complete details of the bank’s staff nominal roll.
The CBN under its suspended governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had a running battle with the Senate as he insisted on CBN’s independence based on the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Act and the CBN Act.

Ukraine proposes demilitarised zone in Crimea
“The Ukrainian government will immediately appeal to the United Nations to recognise Crimea as a demilitarised zone and take necessary measures for Russian forces to leave Crimea and prepare conditions for redeployment of Ukrainian forces,” security chief Andriy Parubiy said on Wednesday.
Earlier, several men in civilian clothing, later joined by military-looking personnel believed to be Russian, had seized the Ukrainian naval headquarters in the Crimean port of Sevastopol.
Parubiy told journalists that in the face of the growing likelihood of military confrontation with Russia, the Ukrainian foreign ministry had been given the task of introducing visas for Russians visiting the former Soviet republic.
Referring to his demilitarisation proposal, Parubiy, secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, said he hoped the UN would support the idea.
“This formula is the best for de-escalation … We hope that common sense will prevail,” he said.
‘Self-defence’ units
A naval spokesman on Wednesday said there had been no violence during the takeover of the base and that he believed the men belonged to so-called “self-defence” units, mainly made up of volunteers who have supported Crimea’s transition from Ukrainian to Russian control, the Reuters news agency reported.
Dozens of despondent Ukrainian soldiers, one of them in tears, filed out of the base.
“We have been temporarily disbanded,” a Ukrainian lieutenant who identified himself only as Vlad told the AFP news agency.
“I was born here and I grew up here and I have been serving for 20 years,” he said as a Russian flag went up over the base without a single shot being fired in its defence. Where am I going to go?”
Sergiy Gayduk, the Ukraine navy commander appointed after his predecessor switched allegiance in favour of Crimea’s pro-Kremlin authorities at the start of the month, was detained.
Three Russian flags were later seen flying at one of the entrances to the base.
Ukraine’s acting president on Wednesday said Crimea’s separatist leaders had three hours to release Gayduk or face “an adequate response”.
Oleksandr Turchynov said in a statement that “unless Admiral Gayduk and all the other hostages – both military and civilians ones – are released, the authorities will carry out an adequate response … of a technical and technological nature.”
As tensions continued to rise, the AP news agency reported that Ukrainian Defence Minister Ihor Tenyukh had been denied entry to Crimea.
Earlier, at a cabinet meeting in the capital Kiev, acting Ukraine Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk had asked his first vice PM Vitaliy Yarema and Tenyukh to fly to Crimea immediately to de-escalate the crisis and try to prevent the conflict from turning into a military one. The officials immediately left for the airport.
