Mandela Family Pleased with Biopic at LA Premiere

The Nelson Mandela biopic Long Walk to Freedom had its US premier in Los Angeles on Monday.

Idris Elba plays the former South African President in the most comprehensive film about his life to date.
Now 95-years-old, Mandela spent 27 years in jail under white minority rule.

After being freed, he led South Africa through a difficult transition to its first racially inclusive elections in 1994, a historic event that propelled him to the presidency and inspired many around the world.

His daughter Zindzi Mandela, attended the premiere and said the entire family including the man himself have seen the film and give it their full backing:

"And he (Nelson Mandela) choked when he saw the clip, when he saw Idris Elba and he said 'is that me?' You know so yeah, he seen it. The whole family has seen it. You know 100 percent our full endorsement and we're very proud that this is a story that is well-told and there's no ways in which history is altered or compromised."
